👉 Question (1) Who was Mr. Lamb ? How did Derry come in his contact ? 

मि. लैम्ब कौन थे ? डैरी उनके संपर्क में कैसे आया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb was an old man with a tin leg. His real leg was blown off years ago during the war. He lived in a big house and he had no family. As Derry was walking through Mr. Lamb's garden, he felt the place isolated. So he got into the garden by climbing over the wall. In this way he got into his contact. 

👉 Question (2) What did Mr. Lamb say to Derry on his coming into his garden ? 

मि. लैम्ब ने डैरी से उसके बगीचे में आगमन पर क्या कहा ? 

✍️ Answer. The attitude of Mr. Lamb towards Derry was quite gentle, protective and accommodating. Like an elder in the family giving advice and instructions to the younger members. Mr. Lamb advice Derry to mind the apples lest he should trip. He also advices Derry not to feel afraid. 

👉 Question (3) How old was Derry ? Why people were afraid of him ? 

डैरी कितने वर्ष का था ? लोग उससे क्यों डरते थे ? 

✍️ Answer. Derry is a fourteen year boy. One side of face is burnt due to acid. People look at his face and call it terrible thing. They call it the ugliest thing they ever saw. So according to Derry people were afraid of him.

डैरी का चेहरा कैसे जल गया था ? 

✍️ Answer. He got acid all down that side of his face and it burnt it all away. And since then it was like that and it would never be any different.

👉 Question (5) What example did Mr. Lamb give about the growing life ? 

मि. लैम्ब ने बढ़ते जीवन के बारे में क्या उदाहरण दिया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb give the example of a flower and a weed. He tells that a weed is also a green growing plant as is a flower. So, there is no difference between a weed and a flower. A weed is also as a important flower. 

👉 Question (6) How was Mr. Lamb a disable person ? What happened to him ?

मि. लैम्ब एक विकलांग व्यक्ति कैसे थे ? उन्हें क्या हुआ था ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb lost one leg in a war. There is a tin leg in its place. The children would mockingly call him Lamey-Lamb. Also, no one ever comes to see him. People have spread many stories about him.

👉Question (7) What incident of a woman did Derry tell to Mr. Lamb ? 

डैरी ने औरत की कौन-सी घटना मि. लैम्ब को बताई ? 

✍️ Answer. Derry said to Mr. Lamb, "One day, a woman went by me in the street - I was at a bus stop and she was with another woman and she looked at me and said slowly". She said "Look at that, that's terrible thing. That's a face only mother could love".

👉 Question (8) What did Mr. Lamb tell about his bees ? 

मि. लैम्ब ने अपनी मधुमक्खियों के बारे में क्या बताया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr.Lamb wants to say that for those who love music, those bees sing a sweet song aliter they are only murmuring. Through these lines Mr. Lamb wants to say that we shouldn't look at thoughts of the people, we must do our work, people will comment as it is duty of world to comment. 

👉 Question (9) Why was the fear of man who locked up himself in a room, according to the incident told by Mr. Lamb ? 

मि. लैम्ब के द्वारा बताई गई घटना के अनुसार, उस व्यक्ति का क्या भय था जिसने स्वयं को एक कमरे में बंद कर लिया था ? 

✍️ Answer. There was a man who was afraid of everything is this word. A bus might run him over, or a man might breathe deadly germs into him, or a donkey might kick him to death or lightning might strike him down, or he might love a girl.

So he went to his room and locked the door and stayed there. A picture fell off the wall onto his head and killed him. 

👉 Question (10) How did Mr. Lamb motivate Derry by giving the example of the organs of Derry's own body ? 

मि. लैम्ब ने डैरी को डैरी के स्वयं के शरीर के उदाहरण को देकर कैसे प्रेरित किया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb tells Derry that he is like others, had two eyes, two ears, two legs, two arms, brain and a tongue. He can do and achieve whatever he likes. In this way Mr. Lamb tries to remove baseless fears of Derry.

बच्चे मि. लैम्ब को कैसे बुलाते थे ? उसकी क्या प्रतिक्रिया होती थी ? 

✍️ Answer. The street kids call Mr. Lamb "Lamey-Lamb" because he had an artificial leg of tin. One of his real leg had been blown off in explosion of bomb. Gradually, he has become used to hearing it. Now, he doesn't feel bad about it.

👉 Question (12) What did Derry say to Mr. Lamb while returning from the garden ? 

डैरी ने मि. लैम्ब से बागीचे से लौटते समय क्या कहा ? 

✍️ Answer. When Derry was returning to home he said to Mr. Lamb that he will be back in a short time. He could run fast because he had not a tin leg. Moreover he wanted to inform his mother about his presence with Mr. Lamb.

👉Question (13) Why was Derry impressed by Mr. Lamb ? 

डैरी, मि. लैम्ब से क्यों प्रभावित हो गया था ? 

✍️Answer. He has got friends everywhere thought kids call him "Lamey-Lamb". He prepares toffee for children. Thus Derry realizes positive and productive attitude of Mr. Lamb towards life. So, he was impressed by Mr. Lamb. 

👉Question (14) How did Derry's mother react when she came to know about Derry's returning to Mr. Lamb's garden ? 

जब डैरी की माँ को डैरी के मि. लैम्ब के बगीचे को लौटने के बारे में पता चला तब डैरी की माँ ने कैसे प्रतिक्रिया दी ?

✍️ Answer. Derry's mother did not have any good opinion about Mr. Lamb. She considered him to be a worthless man. She thought that Mr. Lamb's talk was all nonsense. She didn't want Derry to go there . 

👉 Question (15) What did Derry find when he reached to Mr. Lamb's garden ?

डैरी जब मि. लैम्ब के बगीचे में पहुँचा तो उसने वहाँ क्या पाया (देखा) ? 

✍️ Answer. When Derry reached Mr. Lamb's garden he saw Mr. Lamb with crab apples. He was surprised to find Mr. Lamb lying dead on the ground.

✍️ Answer. Derry was a boy of fourteen years old, who is withdrawn and defiant because of burns and scars one side of his face. Derry carries a conviction that people do not feel comfortable while looking at his face. He thinks people avoid him. He thinks that no body likes his company or loves him.

People said that it was not important what he looked like. Derry knew that people lied and showed sympathy only to comfort him and that he would not change and would continue to look like monstrous beast.

👉 Question (2) Who was Mr. Lamb ? How was he a disable person ? How did he treat Derry ? 

मि. लैम्ब कौन थे ? वह एक विकलांग व्यक्ति कैसे थे ? उन्होंने डैरी के साथ कैसा व्यवहार किया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb was an old man who lived alone in his house. No one comes to him to see Mr. Lamb is retired from the army. He has lost one of his leg in war. He has a garden. Kids call him Lamey-Lamb. People have spread stories about him. He has a tin leg. Mr. Lamb tells Derry that he like others.

In this way Mr. Lamb tries to remove baseless fears of Derry. He also tries to overcome his feeling of loneliness by watching, listening and thinking. He finds no difference between flowers, trees, herbs and weeds. It is by such thoughts that he tries to explain Derry.

✍️ Answer. Derry was given some examples by Mr. Lamb. Mr. Lamb has lost one of his leg in a war. He tells Derry he isn't handicapped like him. He has two legs, two eyes, two ears, two hands. He can do anything in life. He also advises him to have optimistic approach in life at that moments.

He tells Derry that its not what he lookes like, its what he is inside. This makes Derry understand that beauty is only skin deep. He understands that he is not inferior to anybody. He can do whatever he likes.

👉 Question (4) Why did Derry's mother stop him to go to Mr. Lamb ? What was her experience about the world ? 

डैरी की माँ ने उसको मि. लैम्ब के पास जाने से क्यों रोका ? उसका दुनिया को लेकर क्या अनुभव था ? 

✍️ Answer. Derry's mother has been in a particular frame of mind about the old man, Mr. Lamb on the basis of his hearsay. She doesn't have a good opinion of Mr. Lamb and hence doubts the intent of Mr. Lamb. She further thinks that Derry's charred face will make Mr. Lamb more troublesome and insulting.

Though they have lived there for three months, she knows what is worth knowing and Derry isn't going back there. Infact she has been warned. 

👉 Question (5) Give a character sketch of Mr. Lamb.

मि. लैम्ब का चरित्र-चित्रण दीजिए |

✍️ Answer. Mr. Lamb is an important character in this lesson "On the face of it". He has a tin leg. He lived alone and kept the door of his garden always open. He knew the art of living. He was a man with positive attitude.

He brought a major change in Derry's attitude towards life as he was full of negativity due to scare on his face. Mr. Lamb was lonely person. He used to get happiness by spending time with others and reading books. 

👉 Question (6) Give a character sketch of Derry.

डैरी का चरित्र-चित्रण दीजिए |

✍️ Answer. Derry is a 14 years old young boy whose face is half burnt because of acid spill on it. His ugly look made him a pessimist and a longer with various negative complexes. Derry was always introverted, frustrated, angry and withdrawn.

Moreover, he always had a low confidence and dwelled in self pity apart from always being suspicious about others's intentions towards him.
